This Week on The Chant:

Welcome from Reedley College President Barbara Hioco
There is always so much excitement at this time of year.  We not only begin a new semester, but also a new year—2011!  It seems like only recently we were worried about what was in store for us as the year 2000 approached; and, now, 11 years later we can reflect on the fact that we did make the transition into the next millennium.

It is my great pleasure to welcome our students, staff, faculty, and administrators to the beginning of the Spring 2011 semester.  As we think about what is ahead of us, it is also good to think about what we have accomplished and to anticipate change and opportunities.

In the last few years Reedley College has seen a great deal of change that truly changed the face of our campus and provided many new opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to move forward and achieve many of their goals and experience new approaches to teaching, learning, and working.

The most visible changes have been in our facilities.  The opening of the Student Center has significantly impacted the entire campus.  It is so gratifying to see students using the facility and making it their own.  New construction and modernization of existing facilities have also had an impact on the campus in how we go about doing our work and gave faculty the opportunity to provide new and better learning environments for our students. A new residence hall has breathed new life into our residential program.  The 300-acre farm has taken on a new look, along with the arboretum and other areas in the agriculture-natural resources area.

In total, over $30 million has been spent on new and remodeled facilities since 2004 and an additional $1.6 million on upgrades and improvements!  Add to those numbers the changes made with grants, including the new Math Center and remodeled Life Science facilities, and you can see that there have been significant improvements on our campus over the last seven years.  And we are not finished yet.

Lady Tiger on the Prowl

Lexi Zanovitch moved on to the State Championship after qualifying at the Fig Garden Golf Course. The State Championship was held in Chino Hills on the 15th and 16th of November. As an individual Lexi had to finish in the top 12 to qualify. She ended up placing 10th and was one of 3 from the valley to move on to the state championships.

A Harvest Homecoming

Homecoming week has come and gone. This year, ASB welcomed fall by holding a pumpkin carving contest on Monday, October 25th. The idea was to see who could carve the best looking pumpkin in a short amount of time. The Residence Hall took best pumpkin home.
